Evaluation
My finished media project is a front cover and contents page that could be used for a college magazine. My media project uses conventions of real media products because both my media project and a real media product are so similar. This is because of some of the elements on the project like the banner on the front cover and the way the columns on the contents page are the same sort of layout as they would be on a magazine you could buy in a shop. On my front cover and contents page I have developed my work by looking at some magazines so I can get ideas of how I could make mine.
I used new media technologies to make my media project with Photoshop and QuarkXPress. I experimented with different settings on these programs to make my finishing project look more interesting. I used settings like the pen tool which selects parts of the photo which I can then delete. I learnt how to add borders to photos and how to add a banner and make the writing so it curves or dips down.
At the start it was difficult for me to add photo’s because the Photoshop I learnt to use was a different version so some of the settings were in different places. It made it difficult because I couldn’t find the free transform setting but when I finally found this setting I quickly found that I could then experiment more with the photo’s that were inserted and change parts like in one of my photographs I didn’t like the way it was just there so I learnt to use a setting the rubber tool that would change the hardness of the rubber and would look better and would look softer toward the photo and the background under the photo.
On Quark I thought this was a challenge for me because I didn’t know how to work the program and I had never used it before and it’s very complicated. I have learnt new techniques like how I to insert a photo but to get it the right size I have to be able to make the box before the right size for the photo so it will be able to fit right. I have also learnt how to use drop caps which is a setting that can be used to make a word or number at the start of a sentence and make it so it is bold and bigger than the rest of the sentence it is in.
In this project I think my strengths are that it was easy for me to make my front cover because I have used Photoshop before so I already knew how to use most of the settings on it so it was easy for me to get on with producing it. Also weakness of the product and my use of new media technologies is that I can normally learn new skills quickly so it’s easy for me to use new programs but with Quark I thought it was more complicated to learn than it normally is for me. Also taking the photographs for the media project was strength for me because I think I am quite good at taking photo’s so this wasn’t difficult for me to do. The camera’s I used was a college one which was a Samsung and I also used mine out of college which is a Fujifilm Finepix S1500.
Overall I think my media project turned out better now I learnt how to work a new media program and some skills I can use on there to make future projects look better. I’m glad I got to use Photoshop for my front cover because I think it gave me a chance get better skills for it that could help me out in the future with other work. I think that doing this media project before doing the real one has made it good practice and I hope that my next project like this one will turn out better and I will learn more skills again.

In today's lesson we looked at the codes and conventions of a double page spread for a magazine. We looked at different double page spreads from different magazines. Initial Ideas
My magazine i will be producing will be rock/indie, my target audience will be 14-20 year olds who like rock and indie music. It will be a british magazine and it will be similar to Rocksound, NME and AP.

When I was producing my college magazine I used Photoshop, I think I worked well with the program as I have used Photoshop before. It was a little different to get use to though as I the Photoshop I had used in the past was and older version so a lot of the settings were in different places. Even though I have used it before I think I have learnt quite a lot using it this time. I learnt different settings like the pen tool which I learnt that it selects parts of the photo which I can then delete. I think when I was finished producing my front cover I was quite happy with the way it looked and turned out

To collect information on interviews for music magazines I started of by looking at some music magazine interviews and seeing if there are some common questions that are normally asked.
My chosen questions for the band:
-What influences your music?
-For people who haven't heard of you, what artist/band would you say your like?

-What are your favourite bands and artists at the moment?

1. Our influence is the band we used to work with a few years ago and have helped us alot over the time we have been together.
2. We would say we are probably most like Joan Jett and Blackhearts in a more modern hard rock style.
3. We would probably most like to work with Def Leppard style band and from that era.
4. Any large stage to perform any way we want, or festival where people came from around the world to come to watch us.
5. All of our band like different bands and styles of music, from Pop to Metal, i think it just depends on the mood we are in.
6. We are a mixture of modern and classic hard rock, i think thats why we are different from anyone else.
7. We'd aspire to last for years to come, and try to go as far with it as we can.
8. We are working on some of our own songs.
9. We have recently been playing in local pubs and bars trying out new songs and practicing in a live enviroment is always useful.
10. We'd love to support any classic rock band back from the 70/80's era. or some modern rock bands such as the Foo fighters or Nickleback.

-Really good, they played covers which I recognised so it made it even more enjoyable. I also enjoyed listening to their own material.

Evaluation
Question 2: how does your media product represent particular social groups?
I think the photo on my contents page reaches out to a lot of people who like to go and watch and listen to different concerts. The photo could be aimed at people who had watched that particular band and want to read about reviews and look at more live photos.
The content I think is aimed at a younger audience because they seem to enjoy different music or than the older generation. I think this may be because they have more time and energy to watch concerts ect.
I think my magazine represents middle class people in a good way and the information reaches out to them in the content of the magazine. A lot of the information used in the magazine is for middle class because there is humorous lanuage used and there isnt must formal lanuage ised. The magazine does not try to reach to a certain race or region and I think its reaches everybody who likes this certain rock music. This is good because it shows a lot of different audiences backgrounds and reaches out to get a lot of people to by the magazine.
